The China Navigation Company
The China Navigation Company – more familiarly, “CNCo”, is the wholly owned, deep-sea ship owning and operating arm of the multi-national Swire group. CNCo was founded in 1872 to operate Mississippi-style paddle-steamers on China’s Yangtze River. Today headquartered in Singapore, it is one of the oldest independent British shipping companies managing its own tonnage “in-house”. The company operates a global network of multi-purpose liner services for the transportation of containerised, break-bulk, heavy lift and project cargoes, in addition to providing dry bulk and bulk logistics services, through its three core operating divisions - Swire Shipping, Swire Bulk and Swire Bulk Logistics.
CNCo owns and manages a deep-sea fleet of over 30 multi-purpose, container and bulk vessels and controls a further 20 vessels to serve its trades. CNCo is midway through a newbuilding programme to upgrade its fleet. In total, 12 multi-purpose vessels (22,000 - 31,000dwt) and 28 handysize bulk carriers (37,800dwt - 39,500dwt) were ordered for delivery from 2013 to 2016.
CNCo’s significant investment in modern, fuel-efficient newbuildings demonstrates its long term commitment to being a leading provider of sustainable shipping solutions and its customers’ partner of choice.
