Swire Blue Ocean A/S signs key contract with Van Oord for supplying Offshore Installation Vessel to work together with Van Oord’s Aeolus on the Gemini Offshore Wind Farm

19 September 2014

Swire Blue Ocean A/S is pleased to announce that it has signed a key contract with EPCI contractor, Van Oord Offshore Wind Projects bv and will provide a wind farm installation vessel to work together with Van Oord’s own wind farm transport and installation vessel Aeolus on the installation of the 150 foundations and wind turbine generators on the Gemini Offshore Wind Farm.

The 600MW Gemini Offshore Wind Farm will be one of the largest wind farms in the world in terms of size and production and will comprise a total of 150 wind turbine generators. When completed, it will provide power to approximately 785,000 households. The Gemini Offshore Wind Farm will be built in the Dutch part of the North Sea, 85 km north of the coast of Groningen. Installation activity is scheduled to commence in 2015.

“Swire Blue Ocean is pleased to support this large EPCI project of Van Oord with the provision of an installation vessel to work on both the foundation installation and the wind turbine generator installation work scopes of this project. Swire Blue Ocean is pleased to partner with Van Oord Offshore Wind Projects for the Gemini Offshore Wind Farm and aims to deliver high standards of operational excellence, reliability and safety of marine services to our client,” said General Manager & Director of Swire Blue Ocean, Mr Lars Blicher.

The contract is significant as it adds to the steady stream of new projects that Swire Blue Ocean has secured for its fleet of windfarm installation vessels, namely Pacific Osprey and Pacific Orca.

Swire Blue Ocean’s windfarm installation vessels have been successfully deployed on various windfarm construction projects for a diversified range of clients in 2014. In recent projects, Pacific Orca, working for Dong Energy on the foundation installation campaign for Borkum Riffgrund 1, and Pacific Osprey installing turbines for Dan Tysk Offshore Wind completed their projects safely and successfully, recording impressive installation cycle times during these respective campaigns.
